Parker 8 Months

Parker is 8-months old and crawling all over the place. He loves to explore and has also started to pull himself up; this has just started in the last few days. Parker loves to go for the Christmas Tree and has made it under a few times before I have caught him. He races for the tree whenever he gets a chance and has only beat me there twice. Parker has 7 teeth--4 on the top and 3 on the bottom. He loves to use them on mom's shoulder and toys, but thankfully not while eating. He also loves to give kisses, which I love receiving. He also coos as he gives the kiss, which is extra sweet. He is 20 lbs and 27 .5 inches. We have tried the sippy cup and some crackers but no luck yet, he is still learning how to handle those. We are excited to spend our first Christmas with Parker. He loves paper and so I know he will love opening gifts and probably love playing with the paper more than the gift. We think he makes a great Santa, minus the beard of course.

I know, Thanksgiving has been over for a few weeks and I am really behind. My excuse--I got sick...Really I did. Since I was only sick for a few days, I thought about using the Dog ate my computer for the rest of the time. Anyway, I am back to blogging.

We had a great Thanksgiving, with an okay turkey (not bad for our first time cooking). We had Becca and her family with us to celebrate as well as Brooks' oldest brother, Pratt. We had a lot of fun and tons of food. We also spent some time that weekend with Brooks' brother, Brent, and his family. We even went with them to the infamous light parade in Kaysville. Not bad, although they could of been a bit more creative on the selection of candy...you can only eat so many peppermint candy canes. Enjoy the pictures from our Thanksgiving festivities.

We had an eventful evening last night. We were sitting down to dinner (leftovers) and Parker was sitting on his Dad's lap. I had just heated up a plate of food and set it in front of Brooks. A few seconds later Parker reached for the food and got the top of his middle three fingers in some really hot sauce. He burned himself pretty good and we called the pediatrician who had us come in to check it out. Parker cried the whole way there. I tried to keep his hand in a glass of water, which mostly spilled all over him in his car seat. We finally got there (after passing two accidents). Parker calmed down considerably once we walked in the office, although he was still whimpering. The nurse came in to ask some initial questions and he was laughing at her, so that was a good sign. The doctor came in next and told us that it was good the burn was on the top of his fingers and not the other side of his hand. He has a couple blisters, one of which was quite large, but has gone down considerably since last night. They wrapped his hand and gave him some Motrin. As most of you parents understand, that was one of the hardest things for me to see my child suffer and cry endlessly while I felt helpless. He is doing much better this morning, after a rough night, and has already pulled the bandages off his fingers. Luckily the nurse sent us home with extra bandages, she had asked us if we wanted BYU Blue or Utah Red, and was pleased when we, of course, chose the BYU Blue. Go Cougars.

Parker is now 7 months and crawling. He loves to talk (of course we have no idea what he's saying) and laugh. He loves to eat and has eaten all the new foods we've given him, even the green ones. He is 27 inches and 19.5 lbs. He continues to sleep through the night, although he has started to become an early riser--6AM. I guess he wants to see Daddy before he goes to work.

He seems to be very interested in figuring out what he can put in his mouth. Rather than do this with his toys he likes to go after items his Mom does not approve of like door stops, power cords, and chair legs. Then there's the grabbing things like the scissors, channel changers, and the phone. I try to tell him how much more fun his stuffed dog or rattle would be, but I have no luck. I have stopped him each time, except for the chair legs. He is pretty quick in that department, but I have gotten wiser.

We absolutely love our little guy, he makes us laugh and he is so sweet, even when he is pulling my hair, only to get me closer for a kiss, of course.

We had a busy weekend with lots of traveling. Thankfully, Parker is great about sleeping in the car. We attended two weddings. One in Logan and one in American Fork. On Friday we headed to Logan for Brooks' cousin David's wedding. It was a nice ceremony even if it was a bit chilly during pictures, but that is Logan. I had never been inside the Logan Temple so it was fun to experience a new temple. Thanks to Uncle Brent for helping with Parker. We also attended the luncheon at what used to be the old Deseret Industries, but now has turned into a nice restaurant and reception center, our table and former Loganites had fun reminicing about their frequent trips to D.I. After the luncheon we headed south to Lehi for a wedding dinner for my good friend and former roommate, Erin Rees. We were a little late, but they hadn't started eating yet, so it worked out great. It was fun to meet her fiance, Tele. The next morning we were at it again headed to American Fork for Erin's wedding at the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. We dropped Parker off with my friend Becca Farwell in Lehi (thanks a ton, Becca, for a last minute babysit). The sealing was really special and I learned some wonderful things. It was much warmer outside as we waited for pictures. Parker had a great time at Becca's and was a good little boy. She even had to ask if he ever cries; I think it was because he had such a great babysitter. We headed back home and then that evening drove to Provo for the reception. By this time Parker was done with the traveling and ready for his own bed. So we stuck around for about an hour and then headed home. We had fun and it was a treat to share in the joy of our friends and family. And we can't have a post without a picture of Parker. Here he is playing with his Legos that Aunt Andrea handed down to us, he loves them.

We had a Happy Halloween. Parker was the cutest pumpkin on the block (at least we think so). We went to our Ward's trunk or treat the day before Halloween and learned a lesson that you need to bring more than one large Costco bag of candy--we ran out pretty quickly. Brooks wore his "Bob Marley Dreads" that he picked up on our cruise to Jamaica last January. Our trunk was decorated with a pirate theme. I wore a pirate hat and we passed out candy from a pirate chest. We made a skeleton out of PVC pipe and a milk jug; it was a crowd pleaser. After the activity we headed to the store to pick up more candy to pass out at home on Halloween night. On Halloween day, Parker and I met up with Becca and Maya to attend Justin's employer's Halloween party. Each department goes all out in decorating and had themes like: heros and villans, the election, BYU and Utah (including a football field with real grass), Candyland and more. It was impressive and lots of fun, plus we got some yummy candy. On Halloween night, Brooks, Parker and I enjoyed a nice evening at home passing out candy to the neighborhood kids. We dressed Parker up again and took some pictures and video, he was a real trooper wearing his pumpkin costume. Parker got some wrappers in his mouth, but no candy yet. Brooks and I on the other hand indulged ourselves. On the day after Halloween, Parker did get his first taste of sweets. I was at my friend, and former roommate, Erin's bridal shower and Parker crawled over to another guest's plate full of whip cream where he got the fork along with a face full of whip cream. In the process He got a taste of the cream, which he enjoyed very much. It was a great first Halloween for Parker.
